A guy named Farley Mowat spent several years in Alaska living with the
wolves there. He found that the mostly ate mice. In his book "Never cry
Wolf" he describes his experiences. I haven't read the book, but I saw the
movie based on it, and in the movie, Farley tries to live off the mice as
the wolves where doing. He found that if he only ate the meat, he would
starve. But if he ate the whole thing, as the wolves did, then he was just
fine. I think he goes into great detail, in the book, about all the various
ways he tries to prepare the mice.

I've heard of "rabbit starvation" and wonder if that problem can also be
solved by eating the whole animal.
