There are two generations of Okinowans. The younger
ones eat typical junk food, etc. Thus, the overall
stats for Okinawa have dropped significantly.
The older, long-lived generation eats pretty close to
paleo except for tubers; they love their purple sweet
potatoes. They also eat grains but their grains are
whole - not refined grains.
They don't eat any processed foods; they are not
vegetarian; they pratice a form of eating in which
they eat until only 80% full.
They exercise regularly and have a opitimistic view
towards life.
These simple principles of modestly eating whole
foods, good exercise and an opitimistic view towards
life are the main factors that lead to their
longevity.
At least that's what the Okinawans claim and so do
those who studied them.
Whether or not they would do better on paleo - I think
they would - is a matter of speculation.
best,
