There's a general paleo proscription against nightshades because they
are from the Western Hemisphere, but eggplant is the one nightshade that
comes from the Eastern Hemisphere, as far as I know. I believe
pistacchios come from Persia. Sunflower is native to North America, and
has another mark against it in that it is so high in omega-6 fat.
