Hello Harry,

I have been a Verizon DSL user for over a year. I was fortunate enough to
have a friend who installed it for me. She used the CD to install it, but
she had to call the help desk several times to get it going. I hope they
have improved it by now. To get the automatic updates on virus and pop-up
protection as well as a firewall, you must get onto MSN. That is the most
difficult and may take a lot of help from the helpdesk.

Subject: [VICUG-L] taking the plunge, going DSL, help me, please?

Hi all,
Well folks,
They finally got DSL in my area on my side of the road, litterally.
Everyone in Port Huron could get DSL, to the south of me, and north of me
out in the country, folks could get DSL, but on my side of my road, no way.
Well, 2 weeks ago, AT&T told me they now have their DSL available on my side
of the road.
Now, I need some help here folks.
They use a CD to set this thing up, and I've ben told by 2 blind users, (1
on this list, and 1 off this list), "don't use the CD."
So, if that's true, who should I call at AT&T which use to be SBC?
They've already told me that I need to use their CD to install this thing.
So, what should I do?
I don't want the CD to screw my computer up which is working great right
now.
take care,
Harry
