I have received some very interesting and helpful responses......
I have found a pharmacist who definitely knows about gluten free
requirements, and we both are knowledgeable enough to contact drug companies with
appropriate questions. I have read a couple of responses about opening capsules and
emptying the contents, in order to avoid the materials used in capsules all
together. However, in fact, my information is quite contrary. I have the
understanding that with some medications it can be very dangerous and harmful to
follow this procedure and one should NEVER empty the contents of the capsule...
that it is often crucial that the capsule absorbs at a certain point in your GI
tract. This is a practice I would not personally recommend. The best
information I have seen is that anyone with celiac needs to be their own advocate in
these situations, and find a pharmacist that is knowledgeable and willing to
work with you.
