Hi, Mary, and welcome to a really nice list.

As far as hand held rigs go, many of us are using the Kenwood THF-6, a
tri-band radio for 2 meters, 220, and 440. It also receives from nearly DC
to nearly daylight.

It has menus, but, they all beep when you tune to their default settings.

You can also buy a cable to program the radio from a computer.

The going price is just over $300 [plus the cable and any other accessories.

Others on this list are using an Icom or an ADI radio. They will be glad to
tell you about them.
