I've used the Adobe conversion service as well, and it doesn't work very
well I'm afraid. It fails a great deal with many documents. Just FYI, we had
a meeting with Adobe last week at the Mass. Commission for the Blind, and
the problems with Adobe PDF docments are even deeper than we have realized.
While the content of PDF files is often inacessible, the creation process is
even more inaccessible. Blind users cannot create complex PDF files with
tagging and other attributes, as this requires using the mouse. Even if
you're a fairly advanced computer user, and are sighted as well, creating
accessible PDf content is a big job, and is often beyond the scope of many
users. We need Adobe to go a lot farther in their so called accessibility
effort. I've informed Adobe that their product is not 508 compliant. We need
to start a boycott of Adobe products for the federal and state government to
get their attention.

It failed when I tried it a few months or more back.

Access is supposed to be built in the 6.0 Reader.
