I was using the system monitor to look at how many resources my system might
be running in the background, and I stumbled upon a strange pattern of CPU
usage. Immediately after I reboot, my system shows relatively low CPU usage
(10-15%). When I start up Internet Explorer, my CPU usage drops to only a
couple of percent while the IE window is open, but when I close IE, my CPU
usage goes up to about 71% and stays there. I can't figure out why this
might be. I tried taking a look at the processes running with System
Information, but I couldn't see any new process added after opening and
closing IE. There is no internet activity going on after I close IE (no
lights blinking on my router).
I'm running Win98SE and IE 6.0. Any thoughts on what might be going on
and/or how I might investigate this more?
