Vernix caseosa is the white greasy/fatty/waxy substance on newborns.
Parents don't usually get to see this following a hospital birth unless the
nurse misses wiping off a crease. My last child was born at home seventeen
years ago w/ the attendance of a midwife and veteriarian. :-) Baby John was
one slippery dude.
My natural chidbirth book included a recipe for placenta stew. I wonder if
Paleo humans ate the afterbirth as is typical of other animals? I don't see
why not.
