Well, folks, after a considerable amount of time and frustration, my XYL and
I successfully programmed the THF6A using the new interface cable, and the
serial port adapter you suggested.

One of the sources of our frustration, though, was this:

We couldn't figure out how to program memories for each band
separately--i.e. if you program memories for band A., and then try to
program memories for band B., you wipe out what you originally put in band
A. It would seem to us that you should be able to program each band
separately, as long as you start with different memory numbers for the given
band. Are we missing something here?

Also, at least for the first time around, my XYL, who is sighted, did most
of the programming, so I didn't get to do a real "hands on" thing myself,
but will try that someday I'm sure.

Thanks for all of your help with this. I sometimes wonder how much easier
it really was to program the radio with the interface cable, but that may be
due more to my lack of knowledge about these things than anything else. Any
hints you can pass along to make the job easier the next time around would
be appreciated.
