I've not posted to this list before, so I don't yet know what are or aren't
appropriate or "on topic" subjects.

Frankly, I see no problem in having to accept slightly higher taxes, if the
result is less pollution. How else are large, complex, highly advanced
technological societies going to work together to solve problems (and reap
the rewards when problems are solved), if people aren't willing to pitch in,
to share the costs?
No one "wants" taxes, yet, everyone wants the benefits that come from wisely
used tax dollars.

As for "loss of some jobs," that's simply another problem, like pollution.
We ought, as an organized community, devote some tax dollars to helping
people find employment. There is "always" useful and productive, work
available that needs doing. Employment means incomes, and those incomes are
taxed.

Your tax dollars will almost certainly be spent, at times, on projects you
don't like, or even despise. The opposite is also true; that your taxes
will almost certainly, at times, be spent on projects that delight you, and
are despised by others.
