I finally checked on the chocolate chips that gave me a reaction, and they had "vanillin" in them - an artificial vanilla. I have seen that I react to artificial flavors with a full gluten reaction, so that must have been the culprit. (I've also really reacted  to Trident gum, probably for the same reason). I've decided to only buy choc. chips from the big store in town, so I can read the label. (Duh!)
