Hi,
I've owned and used both a Dell Dimension 4100 desktop and a Dell 8100 laptop. The desktop was purchased February, 2001 and the laptop was purchased February, 2002. They were refurbished units. Both machines have worked very well. The 4100 has needed no servicing; the laptop developed a problem with the display about a month after I bought it. The 4100 desktop has been used far more regularly and is now showing its age; it gets cranky and likes to crash a lot, but that goes with the territory on Windows ME machines, especially ones that have seen as much action as mine has. Reformatting, reinstalling Windows and all my applications, then applying various updates would very likely set things to rights. Naturally that raises the question of whether I want to hassle with that or give the machine to someone else and let him/her deal with it, then buy a new one for myself. Would I buy another Dell? Yes, absolutely.
Cheers!
Tom
