You might definitely want to check out the talking checkbook available from
premier software:

www.readingmadeeasy.com

It comes with its own voices (sapi, I believe), but you can turn that off.
Indeed, there is a dialogue box; go to the menu bar, right arrow over to
settings, then down arrow to voice options. You'll see standard (which
involves the sapi voices (microsoft mary, etc.), jaws, window eyes, or no
voices.

The program costs $59.95, but it is a good program, and you can print your
checks with it if you use the large quicken-style checks. I'm currently near
the end of my trial period with this program, but I intend to purchase it.
