Keith,

My cable internet provider has it's own network connection speed test, but
if you want an independent source, I'd recommend one of the following:

PC Pitstop will check your connection speed and a bunch of other
characteristics of your system. If it finds anything that is degrading
your system performance or a possible security problem, it'll give you
instructions on how to correct the situation and in most cases you can
just click on a button to correct the problem. The URL is:
http://www.pcpitstop.com

Fred Langa also has a very comprehensive application called BrowserTune
that will put your browser through it's paces, and again suggest things
you can do to improve your performance. the URL is:
http://www.browsertune.com/bt2kfast/

I also found a ton of links using google.com and a search string like
"free network connection test", but I'm sure a couple of tries would yield
an even better string to search for. remember too that if you're just
surfing the web, you're not talking about a lot of data, especially if you
have things like images and flash disabled. the real test would be in
your large file downloads. Good luck!

Christopher

        Subject: [VICUG-L] Testing Connection Speed

Recently, my provider said they upgraded the speed of our cable internet
connection. However, as I browse the web, nothing seems to have changed.
Being relatively new to cable Internet, I am wondering ow I can check the
speed and make sure everything is in good working order. Thanks for any
advice.
