Hi, Lisa, and all other listserv members from a new member. Lisa, your
questions about Winzip prompted me to check my computer's hard drive, and
sure enough, my suspicions were correct! While I do not have the Winzip
software loaded per se, I do have Winzip files associated with several of my
downloaded programs (including JAWS--the demo version, Window-eyes--the Demo
version, Quicktime, and Surfernetwork player--has anyone ever developed a
JAWS macro to read that player, by the way?--among others). The Winzip
files allow these programs to be downloaded onto my computer in a contracted
state. When I click on Quicktime.zip (for example), I am given two choices,
(1) to see .dat mini-files; and (2) to unzip Quicktime.exe. Choosing the
second allows me to load Quicktime.exe onto my desktop (or my documents, or
anywhere else I'd like). I can then use the Quicktime.exe to then install
Quicktime. The important thing here is that you only need to purchase and
install Winzip software if you are planning to make programs available for
others to download off of your web site. If you are just downloading
programs from other sites, you do not need to purchase or install
Winzip--the programs you're downloading already have it.
To all, take care.

Ted Chittenden
