Mike,
It isn't that there aren't protocols, the internet is full of
them it is that one has to get the industry to agree on which to
use and how to set them up so they work on ATMs.  Then you gotta
get the blindness industry to agree to the same ideas and
implement it all.

It takes political power and the knowhow to use it and the will
to push push push

Were it to be done, I'd strongly support the use of infrared
communications.  It would solve the hardware connector problems
completely and not add signifficantly to the protocol problems.
