Subject: [missouri-l] Digital Radio Accessibility
National Public Radio Labs, along with partner WGBH National Center
for Accessible Media, has been awarded a 3-year grant from NIDRR to
prototype and field test technologies and services to be included in the
next
generation of commercial digital receivers that will best serve
consumers with sensory disabilities. We are currently in the first phase of
this
grant - seeking out information from the "user community" about the types
of
features and technologies that should be considered for inclusion into the
next generation of digital radios.
As a first step in this process, we would like to invite you and your
constituents to tell us about the kinds of products, services, features
and technologies you would like to see included in the next generation of
radios. In order to facilitate this process, we have developed a
questionnaire that we would very much appreciate you completing and
returning by December 20th. You can respond in two ways. You can go to
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=495702933744
(for hearing impaired)
or
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=481792932805
(for vision impaired)
to
fill out our on-line survey or you can use the attached questionnaires.
If
you use the attached questionnaires, please submit your responses
electronically to

We will gather together everyone's comments, write a descriptive report
and
present our "wish list" to manufacturers and digital service providers
at
the Consumer Electronics Show in early January in order to begin a
dialog
about including accessible technologies in future digital radios. In
return
for supplying the raw data, we would be happy to send you our written
report. We encourage you to distribute the attached questionnaires to
anyone who you believe would enjoy sharing ideas. Feel free to forward
this
e-mail to them. If you would prefer to send us the names/e-mail
addresses
of people, we would be happy to e-mail them questionnaires directly and
tell
them about our website.
Thanks for any information you can supply. Please feel free to provide
feedback in any way you see fit (whether it fits neatly into our
questionnaire or not!), including writing a free-form narrative or
calling
us if you do not wish to use internet technology. We believe that this
round is just the beginning of an iterative process that will last over
the
next few years. At this stage we hope you let your imaginations take
over
and provide any and all insights that you have (practical and/or
far-reaching).
If you have any questions about the process, please contact
