Good point.  If insulation, rather than energy, is the adaptive purpose
of body fat (because energy is plentiful in winter in the form of
protein and fat), then we would expect metabolic resistance to losing
body fat in the winter, as long as dietary protein and fat are
plentiful, right?  The body would attempt to retain fat for the duration
of the cold weather.
