Hi Nancy,
My daughter went through this when she was about 1 year old - they said it
was possibly the rotavirus (I think it was a combination of milk reaction
and some virus - the foul smell/green poop)- It lasted about 12-14 days by
day 3 she had about 30 dirty diapers, and when she was crying and no tears
were coming, we RACED to the ER - Thankfully just in time as she had become
severely dehydrated within 24 hours. They put in the IV immediately (it was
hard to even get into her veins because of the dehydration, which can be
fatal they said if you wait too long). We stayed at the Children's hospital
for 8 days until she was stabilized. Pedialyte made her throw up, so we
stopped it. Kayoeletrolyte powder worked better ,but the best has been
gator ade DILUTED w/water.

I would not risk dehydration at this point and err on the conservative, and
take him into a doctor or even hospital - it is hard to tell when a child is
dehydrated just by looking at them.

At 7 mos, can he have mushy rice (not rice cereal)? Bananas mashed are also
good restorers of lost potassium during diahrrea.

Good luck.

Aisha

does pedialyte make diarrhea worse? Hunter, 7 months, was vomiting =
(stomach flu in addition to upper resp. inf) Monday nite to late Tuesday =
nite so he was on pedialyte only. wed afternoon we started formula =
(neocate) again, thickened w/ rice and he had a few (maybe 4 for the =
whole afternoon and evening) diarrhea diapers. From 7am Thursday to now =
he has had over 20 (yes twenty +).
