So, Judy didn't, like, lay down the mortgage or anything, did she? When I
go down to Fla. to see Momma and Daddy I always take $20 to the dog track,
but that damn rabbit always wins (I should have learned that from watching
cartoons). Good, clean fun--in moderation, of course.
Yeah, many editors/publishers I've worked with are really into the power
trip. The attitude is, "Nyah! Nyah! We decide whether you eat or starve,
so we can afford to be as rude as we want." I refuse to kiss their behinds,
so that doesn't win me very many brownie points either. Last week I sent
back a "pink slip", added grammatical corrections and told the editor to run
her "get lost" letters through SpellChecker next time. Guess you won't see
my byline on any of their pubs, eh?
Have you noticed, though, how terrible the quality of periodical (magazine,
newspaper, etc.) writing is today? I had a chat with an editor a while back
about the bad spelling in his paper, and his attitude was, "So what. Most of
our readership can't spell either." Sad.
They say having little ones around keeps you young. With a six-year-old and
a 16-month-old at home, I'd say it just keeps you tired. ;-)

Kyle,
Hang in there with the writing. Editors are a real hassle. I went
'round and 'round with one this Spring and finally gave up. Technical
writing is boring
after 30 years of it. Fiction is more fun(I've got "Blood Thirsty and Night
Phobic: The Story of Clem, the Redneck Vampire". It will never sell, but I
had loads of fun writing it.
Judy crapped, got home at 2 A.M. Two guys hit on her and did
wonders for the ol' marrried woman's ego. The kids got up at 8:00 AM and
she was not in a good mood the rest of the day(I wonder why??)!!
It was fun having two little ones to take care of again, but I would not
want a steady diet of it!!
