Ken,
Ralph refers to the embarrassment of architecture students. In order to compete in traditional matters of designing
until you drop from exhaustion and your designs become suitably incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't had a "vision",
one gives up more routine enterprises of students, like learning about things outside of one's major, the scientific
method, philosophy, history, and fornication.
