Hi Tracy,
I recommend the TH-F6A from Kenwood. The radio covers 144/220/440MHZ
amateur bands as well as general coverage receive from below the broadcast
band to 1.3GHZ. You can directly enter frequencies via the keypad. A blind
person can select ctcss/dcs tones independently. You can in addition set
all other functions because the radio gives different tomes to indicate
different states of the rigs behavior. It is very user-friendly. I have
had one since October of 2001. I hope this helps.
