personally, if you are looking for a radio that is blind friendly and gives
great performance I would highly recommend the icom icr71a. it is a mains
only receiver and needs an external arial, but it is one heck of a nice
receiver with a great sound and really pulls in the stations with a good
arial. it has direct frequency entry and all its features I have found very
easy to use. it has usb and lsb but no vhf fm. it can also have a speech
chip fitted to tell you what frequency you are on when tuning around so that
you can make a note of it when you find a station you like with out having
to wate and hope that the station will give it out. you should bee able to
pick up one second hand for about £250 to £350, that is in u.k currency, if
you have a good outside arial I don't think you would regret it.

Simon
