Dat ol Push mower

I was tinkering with an old push mower
pushing the oil into the sleeves
to make it sing and do its thing
as I round life's corner.
>
I like the whirrr it makes
and the time it takes
to blend body into motion
I like the fresh cut grass
and the touch of class
that pre dates a combustion engine

So let the screen door slam
and the cicadas drone
as the ice tea goes awaiting

As the sprinkler waves and the opera plays
out Mama's back porch window
I 'll push our mower and then some more
 in timeless rocking motion

Even as the baby sleeps I'll keep the beat
in time with the blue bird snd sparrow.
I'll whirr along in Saturdays song
in praise of
 "dat ol" push mower
