Hello to all,

I have been on a GF diet (very strict) for 2 years now, somewhat strict for about 3 (realized I was being bombarded with cross contamination.) I can not tolerate anything that is processed. I had come to the realization that I could not tolerate any carbohydrates, so now with all of my intolerances to many foods, I am down to just protein (meat) and some vegetables. (Also no caisine, yeast) I also have Barrett's Esophagus, so no fats, spices, etc. for that diet.

I went to my doctor a couple of weeks ago and told him I had what I thought were a lot of diabetic symptoms. He ordered the 5 hour glucose tolerance test. When I went back to see him a week later, he told me "the good news is you are not diabetic or hypoglycemic, the bad news is you are not absorbing glucose at all." That was a shock to me, as I have been GF for so long. I have no other deficiencies that we have found yet. He then did a Xylose tolerance test. The people at the lab who did the test didn't know how to do it, so right now there is a question of weather that test that came back normal is accurate or not. They didn't do it the way my doctor told me they would. I have made an appointment with my gastroenterologist for a couple of weeks from now, at that point I will have his input.

Anyway, since discovering this dilemma, I am also more aware that even vegetables like squash bother me. My skin reactions are more severe now, with tingling all over (almost a burning feeling.)

According to information I have read, I have a lot of the symptoms of Whipples Disease. Malabsorption, hyper pigmentation of the skin, arthritic like pain, to name a few. I am having a lot of problems with my eyes (blurry).

Have any of you had this problem, or know how Whipple's could be connected to CD? Does anyone else have the problem of Glucose malabsorption? I know that it is rare, I just don't know how rare it is in the Celiac community. Thanks in advance for you help.
