I recently brought a PC which has an odd CD-ROM. It is very temperamental -
sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. What normally happens is it
will work after you've booted the system, then it's performance, or more
specifically its data retrieval speed will degrade until it stops working.
Sometimes it just suddenly stops. After it has stopped working you can hear
it trying to access the CD, but it never succeeds.
In Windows XP, if you go to My Computer and click on the CD-ROM icon after
it has stopped working, My Computer will stop responding.
I've checked the EDIE cables are firmly connected. The drivers came
pre-intalled, so I don't have them to reinstall them. What should I do?
