Maybe I can help Todd, having hunted, gathered, and fished. I would say the
lowest caloric expenditure - in my experience - has been fishing, and the
highest trudging up and down hills looking for game. Gathering falls
somehwere in between. Of the three, fishing is the most steady state as far
as energy expenditure, and gathering the most chaotic.

Now, which is most rewarding calorically? Obviously, game is going to win
that title. But, I've never had a plant "outsmart" me and lead me on a wild
goose chase :) Sometimes going after game is *not* worth the effort.
