Dear Ginny
Sorry that I took some time to reply.. Have you heard about the
15:15 rule for low blood sugar? For suspected low sugar take 15 grams of
carbohydrates (1/2 cup orange juice, or 1 cup skim milk, or 1/2 cup
non=diet soda or 5-6 hard candies) wait 15 minutes and test . blood
sugar. If it above 70 stabilize with food. If it is meal or snack time
then eat normally. If not have some additional food such as cheese
and crackers or 1/2 meat sandwich., yogurt or pretzels (gluten-free, or
course). If blood sugar was still below 70 then take another 15 gram of
carbohydrates and repeat the 15:15 rule. I keep small boxes for apple,
orange juke for my nighttime lows. I also carry small boxes or raisins
with me in addition to gluten=free crackers or rolls in case I have low
blood sugar. and need a snack. It does seem like a juggling act. Good
luck. I have some trouble dealing with this all and I'm a nurse.
