Not at all. Here I am in one of the more conservative states - NC - and we're better off than Calif! And that area was the hot seat of liberalism back in the 1960s and 1970s.
I do think it's a side-effect of Proposition 13...with less money coming from property taxes, etc., services are being cut due to budget deficiencies and local municipalities are having to tighten the purse strings. And voters don't want to elect politicians who are 'soft' on $$ and services.
We may find ourselves in the same spot in NC if things don't ease up soon.
