Ann,
I agree with Ann W. that the JAWS-Jawbone duo with Dragon works well for
many people, and would certainly be an option to consider. However, I
also want to share that I have used Dragon with Window-Eyes
successfully--under certain circumstances. In my experience, the
"trick" to making Window-Eyes and Dragon play well together is using as
powerful of a machine as possible. I found they worked the best
together on a machine with at least an 800 MHZ processor and at least
256MB RAM; the more resources the better. Now, you do not get the
immediate feedback as to what Dragon has processed as is the case when
Jawbone is at work. You must manually navigate through the document to
proof and edit. However, this might be an option if the patron has a
powerful enough machine, if he/she is already familiar with using
Window-Eyes, and/or if the cost associated with switching to an entirely
different screen reader is of concern.
On a related note, if this patron is not using the latest version of
Dragon(6.0), I would strongly encourage going to that version. I have
observed that the recognition rate for v 6.0 over 5.0 is quite
substantial. Also, consider the Voice-Array microphone
(http://www.voicerecognition.com/products/gn%20netcom/index.html) over a
conventional headset. Recognition rate with Voice-Array is phenomenol,
and no more being tethered to the CPU.

syndrome
and it has been recommended that he greatly reduce the time he spends
keyboarding. He has tried Dragon but doesn't feel the accuracy is where

needs to be. Is there another solution besides Dragon? If voice
recognition is the only way to go, does Dragon interface with Window
Eyes?
