I am responding to a previous posting by
Shellie inquiring who Dr. Fine was.
Dr. Kenneth Fine is a gastroenterologist who used to be affiliated with Baylor University Medical Center and now has formed Entero Labs. I would recommend going to his website at www.finerhealth.com for further information.
Dr. Fine is the physician advisor for the Dallas/Ft.Worth Lone Star Celiac CSA Chapter -- actually for many years.
He has presented his material and overviews of the whole celiac picture at many research conferences, like the International Celiac Symposium in Baltimore in 1999(not sure of the date, but I was there). Also at the conference presented by the American Celiac Assoc. in August.
Dr. Fine has spoken at many support group meetings to spread awareness about the seriousness of CD and also some of his own research findings. He is interested in keeping celiacs healthier, and he is working to expanding his research. His lab is a not-for-profit service.
He believes the current antibody tests only reveal middle- to late stage CD, where his stool antibody tests tend to pick up early stages. He wants people to be diagnosed early so that they will take the necessary steps (GF diet and other sound nutrition advice) before other autoimmune system diseases develop.
Go to the web site and learn. I like him as a person and respect his goals and methods. He has very good intentions regarding celiacs.
Yes, his research is not mainstream at this point and time. Usually research becomes widely known and accepted when other researchers duplicate to the same end. He has a patent on his testing methods at this point.
Quite a few of our Houston members have used
Dr. Fine's testing services, especially for relatives.
