Hi, my original post was made out of concern that another post regarding
soy sauce might inadvertently lead some folks to SanJ's wheat soy sauce,
since I thought the company made both wheat soy sauce and wheat free
tamari......several folks say they've had reactions to SanJ's wheat
free. I don't use it every week, even, but have not noticed any reaction
to it, even though I've reacted to other sources of contamination in
foods, so this news surprised me. I think it's really important that we
use our heads about these choices because there are so many variables
in our days, our intake, how long it takes to respond to contamination
depending on when we ate and what condition we're in--there are a number
of reasons to decide not to eat something, which many people posting
here often mention. Sometimes the food isn't good for us, anyway.
Sometimes we may be overlooking concurrent difficulties caused by damage
to our gut...it's hard to nail these things down. Our disease brings
complex issues to each of our tables. After reading these responses, I
may forgo my favorite SanJ "wheat free" Tamari and use Bragg's instead,
even though I find it too salty....these are the responses I received to
my posting:

Dear Deborah, San-J rep. has told me that the company may have vapor
contamination from their wheat-soy sauce which is made in a tank next to
the one with the wheat-free soy sauce. They cited that their tests
aren't sensitive enough to detect low levels of gluten and should be
avoided by those sensitive but since damage can be "silent", I have
decided not to use their product. I can't tolerate the corn alcohol
well in the product anyway as I'm on a neutral pH diet as advised by my
Gastroenterologist to control my stomach symptoms. Any one can verify
this info. with the company at 800-446-5500-from "L and N Matsui"

Deborah,
Yes, san-j definetely has both. It has tamari (wheat free) and
shoyu (with wheat). These are the two ypes of traditional japanese "soy
sauce" (not to mention other varieties of these two like low sodium).
hey might also even have a soy sauce (chinese version) which would
havewheat in it too. However the tamari version is definetely gluten
free.---John Grimes

San J has said they can't guarantee that the wheat free tamari is gf,
since they are processed on the same equipment. They do clean well, but
we know how that can be. I had reactions early on to it. - Verna, VA

I wasn't sure if you were looking for a gf soy sauce or not. The one I
use, since it is corn-free too, is Bragg's Aminos (odd name but I think
it is because there are alot of amino acids in it, which are good for
you). It is pure and doesn't have anything else in it other than soy
beans and water........best wishes, Leslie in Atlanta
