I looked up the Brazil numbers.
It has 20 people per sq-km (USA has some 25, Germany 230).

80% of the land is owned by 20% of the people.
There are  many big land owners
and 180 millio ha in big farms are just fallow land (??).

Much of this may be ex-rainforest and not well suited to live on.

But quite big land is there, as you supposed.
