3F8 is COM1, if you have an internal Modem on COM1 then that's your
conflict.. If you also have a PS2 mouse, then next time you boot, go into
the BIOS and disable COM1 and that should end the conflict. As far as the
scanner goes, I would suggest re-installing the drivers since you didn't
mention what type of scanner... USB, Parallel or SCSI. 98SE can be
re-installed easily without loosing settings by booting off the CD and going
to the CD:\tools\sysrec and running PCRESTORE. Hit return and go have
lunch.
