I'm not so sure about this. TFT are very popular and the prices have
plummeted in the last year. I am even thinking of geting an 18 inch one.
However, all graphic professionals still use CRT for good reasons. As you
wrote, the ability to change resolutions, my preference, but also there are
very many calibrations that can be made with a CRT, such as a temperature.
These calibrations are not important to the average end user, but high
speed movement, such as you find in gaming and video, is still an issue
with a TFT.
