I would defiantly go with Windows XP Pro. I am a long time user of the NT
platform including NT and W2K and was at first reluctant to switch to XP. I
have found that XP offers better hardware support and is at least, if not
more stable on my system as W2K. It is also very easy to network and able to
run Windows 9X and ME applications that W2K could not. In addition, newer
applications may not run on 2000.

The only draw backs that I can see with XP is the lack of drivers for older
hardware and system changes and upgrades. There is no XP driver for my
scanner, but the W2K drivers work under XP. The other problem that I have
encountered is that if you change certain items with your system, you have to
contact MS to obtain a new registration number or your system will no longer
function. I had to hold on the phone for around twenty minutes when my hard
drive crashed and I needed to reload from a mirror drive onto a larger drive
I bought. I don't know what they would do if you changed say the MB or CPU.

It is also my understanding that there is about to be a significant upgrade
to XP within the next month or so. You might wait to purchase the latest
release.
