Hi Janet,

Throwing in my two cents worth of comments on your one day's menu. I'm no
expert, and I only discovered Paleolithic Nutrition about a month and a half
ago myself, but what I'm doing is working for me. (In addition to a heap of
other positive side effects, I've gone from 178 pounds down to 157.5, and I'm
wearing jeans that I bought MANY years ago when I weighed @140. I'm
ecstatically happy to have found this lifestyle, and I've never felt better
or healthier. I hope it can work out as well for you and everyone else.)

5 pieces of sausage - I figure sausage is probably bad, unless you made it
yourself or really *hunted* around food stores to find some that is paleo.
Read the ingredients and if it's got any sugar (or anything that sounds like
it could be sugar -- dextrose, fructose, etc. ad nauseum -- then just don't
buy it, because it's bad.) And I don't know what size those 5 pieces were,
and I'm not saying 5 pieces of sausage is a lot, but it made me think of how
when I eat anything tainted with non-paleo food (like bacon, before I was
un-curing it) I get almost irresistible cravings to keep eating more of that
same food until it's all gone. But when I eat paleo food, I generally feel
satisfied after much smaller portions that I would have expected.

real bacon bits - Same as the sausage, watch for those hidden sugars & other
bad stuff in store- bought meats. It's hard to find real paleo food at
first, but it won't take you long to develop a knack for it, and it's
definitely worth it.

roasted almonds, roasted pistachios - I've been eating "raw" nuts only --
when I check the ingredients on the roasted ones, they're always roasted in
some non-paleo oil. Raw ones taste just as good, maybe better, and I don't
get that compulsion to eat all of them.

commercial honey-mustard dressing - Noooo! (gasp is right! <g>) I bet you
could make your own, because I think both honey and dry mustard powder are
paleo, and there's a Paleo Mayonnaise recipe in Ray Audette's "NeanderThin"
(only $6.99 in paperback, and it's worth 100 times that, to me at least). As
for me, I don't use salad dressings and I don't miss them, because I usually
have something juicy and flavorful (like a piece of grilled meat, or some
fruit) in my salads.

Other than these things I've noted, your daily menu looks a lot like a
typical daily menu of mine. I don't avoid fatty foods -- I read somewhere
(probably in NeanderThin, but I loaned it out again, and need to go buy
another, so I can't check right now) that if you want your body to process
the fat it has stored, you need to be getting fat in your diet, so your body
knows to make the enzymes necessary to burn fat. I've always thought fatty
meats are the tastiest, and fatty nuts like Brazil nuts and macadamias are my
favorite nuts, too. (For years I avoided fats, trying to lose weight on
low-fat diets, and I felt sick and starved all the time. And when I did lose
weight on a low-fat diet, I'm sure it was muscle that I lost. But now I'm
eating more fat than ever, and I'm losing weight like you would not believe.
Go figure.)

I had hit a plateau a couple of weeks ago where I wasn't losing any more
weight, but when I cut back on the high-carb paleo foods (like carrots,
zucchini squash, bananas) and bumped up my activity level, I started losing
again.

Good luck, and I hope you start seeing the results you want, too!

Kathy
