I wanted to send a word of congratulations to incoming Alder - Isadore
Knox and incumbent Alder Brian Benford. I went to sleep before the
results, when both were down - so I was SOOO delighted to wake up and
find that both had won!
I think that both men bring a great amount of skill and experience to
the jobs and most importantly to myself personally- both men have
children and share family values that are near and dear to my own heart
- when it comes to the needs of families of color - I know that it takes
someone with the experience of what we personally go through to really
be able to advocate and get to the heart of the matter. There is NO ONE
who knows better than ourselves, what it is that we need. So for that
reason alone, I am exited.
In addition, just being able to say that in my adulthood, we had more
than one African-American male on the council is great. I just hope that
we see females make similar strides in future elections. From what I can
tell, we have the potential and there are certainly some strong women of
color out there who can get the job done - not just in representing
African American concerns - but who can get past that and get to the
real heart of the matter where we find that most issues have no concern
for race what so ever - the effect everyone at one time or another.
I'm excited to see how the new council will operate and to see both of
these gentlemen in action - not just because they are African-American
men, but because I know them to be good men and family men who have
non-negotiable values and who stand strong and firm in their beliefs.
Good luck!
Hedi Rudd
