So much can be said about this summer, but what stands out the most is
the weather - when it wasn't raining - we've had pretty pleasant days.
August is in full swing and rather than stifling heat, I'm wearing a
jacket and thinking about fall holidays. So to get myself out of that
mood...I thought I would send out a reminder of the fun stuff that is
going on during this final month of summer!

1) DANE DANCES! at the Monona Terrace. Free Dane County Dance Party -
visit Danedances.org for the complete schedule and to view pic's from
the dances. This Friday August 13th, the featured bands are Black
Acoustic Soul Tribe and In Black N White. DJ El Niche and Lady P will
spin tunes in between. Gates open at 4:30 - with DJ El Niche kicking the
party off at 5:30. Feel free to bring friends, family and food or buy a
nice dinner from one of many vendors.

2) MADISON MAGNET - Thursday 8/12/04 4:30-8:30 Madison Magnet at the
Madison Club! Is there a better way to enjoy the summer than an
afternoon grill-out. Madison MAGNET and The Madison Club are partnering
to offer you access to a special cook-out and happy hour on the MC
Patio! The Madison Club is a downtown private club that is known for
great food and well-heeled members, but that is changing. Come out and
enjoy half priced drinks, free appetizers, great food from the grill and
access to a beautiful historic Madison building - through this special
even, MAGNET is opening a door that was often thought closed. Groups
like MAGNET are showing the value of young professionals to the greater
community both in business and public venues. This event is open to
members and interested individuals. (www.madisonmagnet.org)

3) ORTON PARK FESTIVAL OPENER: 8/12/04 Ralph Irizarry & Son Cafe w/ El
Clan Destino. 8:30 p.m. Luthers Blues $10 advance/$12 day of show. This
is a unique opportunity to hear a special band! Visit
www.marquette-neighborhood.org/timbalero.html for more information.

4) ADEM TESFAYE & THE SOUL RAP MOVEMENT: Thursday 8/12/04 $5.00 Cafe
Montmarte. Visit www.ademtesfaye.com - Adem played Dane Dances last year
as part of the Black Acoustic Soul Trio (BAST) and is the founder of the
Black Poets Society. He is planning a move to New York by the end of
this year, so catch him while you can!
