Klez Is Bad

Some versions of Klez virus/worm are destructive
and will wipe out part of your computer on particular
upcoming dates. Please update your virus protection
and be sure your virus protection is turned on.

The Klez worm/virus variants are considered
an increasing risk by anti-virus firms. This
message includes information and steps you
probably should take to prevent your computer
from becoming your enemy, my enemy, or
worthless.

Vulnerability

If you use Microsoft Windows and do not have
anti-virus protection, you will probably be
infected soon. If you have anti-virus protection
and have not updated your protection lately,
you will probably be infected soon. Even
Eudora and Pegasus users can be infected,
if they run on a Microsoft Windows operating
system.

Group Membership

You cannot be infected from this group, because
many preventative steps have been taken at the
server. However, if you have written a message
to the group, it is always possible to be infected
by another group *member* after they, themselves,
are infected. Lurkers are safer, because their e-mail
addresses do not appear in any messages from
this group that may be stored on a group member's
computer.

When the virus is working, it seeks e-mail
addresses in files on the infected computer. The
virus then sends infected messages to some of
those addresses, and the virus uses other e-mail
addresses found on the computer to falsely say
the infected message came From: that address.

Because I am receiving frequent delivery-failure
and other messages about Klez, I suspect that
some members of this group may have already
been, unfortunately, infected.

Klez Is Nasty

This threat can destroy your data and make
your computer unusable (worthless).

Klez can send an attachment that APPEARS
to come from a friend or other legitimate address
- tricking the victim into becoming infected by
opening the infected attachment. Do not open
attachments without checking with the source.

What To Do

Below are several links to try to help with this
issue. Prevention is the best way to go - so
if you use Microsoft Windows software PLEASE go to

is free and not too complicated.
