CELIAC Digest - 13 Jan 2003 (#2003-35)First look through the updates at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502.pdf These are the revised medical and dental deductions.
See the bottom of page 9 for information about deducting seminars etc relating to your chronic illness.
See top of page 12 - while under the heading of weight loss - I believe/think/feel but can't guarantee this is how you can deduct the DIFFERENCE between the cost of "regular" items and GF items.
Page 20 lists the Tax advocate #. When I called last year I was told I could deduct the DIFFERENCE between what a mattress pad & pillows normally cost and the difference of the more expensive ones the allergist told me I must have due to my severe allergies specifically my dust mite allergy. I saved his letter and the script he wrote for these items with my taxes should I ever be audited as advised by the advocate.
NOTE***** I am not an accountant, nothing I have stated should be taken as financial advise. As always, remember your tax situation is unique and you should contact your tax advisor or the IRS for advise.
