Venison from plains, grass-fed deer is much less gamey in taste than venison from forest-land, leaf eating deer. Bearing in mind what Ray just mentioned that our current ecosystems have much more woodland that paleolithic ecosystems (and dredging up memories from college ecology classes that hardwood forests are "climax" environments confrims that), that would make sense.

But it raises the question, were we "supposed" to have decreased in number as a species when the plains decreased and the woodlands increased?

Are there any remnant paleo societies in woodland environments are are they all on the oopen plains or tundra?

Kathleen
