Well, it depends on what you are trying to open. If it is a music or
sound file then you choose which application you want to use to hear the
file. Usually installing a program onto your pc associates all supported
files with that application so you don't have to choose. In windows 98 I
believe you go to 'my computer' and highlight your 'c' drive. Click on
'view' and then 'file types' or 'folder options' then 'file types'. This
will show you all the extensions on your pc and which program uses them.
Under windows 2000 this is found under 'tools' - 'folder options' -
'file types'. Once you know which application uses which extension then
you can set that application as the default so you don't have to choose
everytime. I am sorry that I can't be more helpful, it has been awhile
since I was on a pc with windows 98.
