Hi Carol,
I am also a low-vision computer user.
I personally do not believe that a larger monitor is always the best solution.
Some things that should be considered are;
when you are using the internet or reading e-mail, what is the distance between
your eye and the screen? If you are already having to look closely at the
monitor, this may be worsened with a larger monitor as you may have to move
your head aroun more to see what is in the corners of the monitor: I think this
is an important consideration just in terms of physical wellness.
what browser and program do you use for mail?
have you set the font size to large or largest in these programs?
most people use a screen resolution of 800x600. a higher resolution will give
greater definition to what is on the screen but at the same time as the
resolution is increased, the actual size is decreased.
I use Netscape instead of Internet Explorer because I have greater control over
the font size for both internet and e-mail.
Have you considered getting some software such as Zoomtext. This mahnifies the
screen and can also do text to speech.
Good luck
Monte
