It's testing for glaucoma, Mag.  My ophthalmologist puts a few numbing drops
in my eyes and then does the test.  It's a must in my case as my grandmother
went blind from glaucoma and I may have inherited a tendency to get it.

I don't have a problem with a startle reaction for this test as I'm used to
it.
