V. good site, Jenn. Looks good to me.  Here's another on pain management you might want to look at just for information on treatments, etc.:

It's US-based, but has a lot of good general info.

Kyle mentioned Worker's Comp - that's outside the medical indemity insurance end of things as it's solely used for compensating workers who have become disabled on the job.  The way it usually works here in the US is that the case is assigned to a WC doctor and he prescribes treatment and meds; the end result is to get one back on the job ASAP.  If the worker can't go back to the old job, he or she will be placed in another comparable job or placed on disability, which is another ballgame.  W/C pays a finite amount for a disability rating over a finite period of time, and if the worker is still not able to come back to work, he/she is placed on permanent disability and SSDB (if qualified) or long-term-disability takes over at that point.  This scenario depends on if the company offers LTD or if the person qualifies for SSDB.  If they don't meet either of the criteria or if the W/C benefits should run out before they can go back to work (if they can), they are out of luck, unfo!
rtunately, and this is where the state or local government social welfare usually kicks in.  W/C used to have the rep of being an "easy ride," but insurance companies have tightened up on things the past 10 years and so it's tougher to get away with "malingering."
