Food Allergen Bill Update - PLEASE ACT NOW!!

S.2499, the Food Allergen Consumer Protection Act, which would amend the
Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require food labels to identify known
food allergens contained therein or be deemed misbranded, without regard as
to whether or not the presence of an allergen is intentional or
unintentional, is set to be marked-up (voted on) in the Senate Health,
Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee on July 31st. However, it does
not have significant support in the Senate.
If we would like to see this bill get through the committee, it is imperative
to take some action.
If you have members in any of the states represented by HELP committee
members, they should call the offices to ask for support.
Below, I am including a list of all the HELP committee members. Our members
should call their State offices (at the phone numbers provided) and say:
"Hello, my name is _______. I am from ______(city), in ______(state).
I would like Senator _______ to support S.2499 when it comes before the HELP
committee next week."
We need as many calls as we can get. The only members of the committee who
should not be called are Sen. Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Clinton (D-NY), as
they are sponsors of the bill.
If we want this for the CD community, it is important we be heard. Get all
the support you can from family and friends. There is no time to delay.
Make calls to all your senators, even if they are not on this committee.
