Another thought - your relatives might not have even known that they

any type of thyroid problems....Your relatives could've had a problem
but because of "normal" results they
didn't pursue anything more.

I couldn't agree more, and autoimmune doesn't just mean thyroid.  In my
family, no one before my generation had a confirmed autoimmune disorder,
yet my sister has rheumatoid arthritis, I have Hashimoto's, and a cousin
has lupus....all of which are autoimmune.  The only relative the three
of us have in common is our paternal grandmother.  She had diabetes and
weighed over 300 pounds........draw your own conclusions.  You may need
to dig deeper to find a source, or just accept the fact that this stuff
wasn't diagnosed as autoimmune in earlier generations.
