My wife is biopsy diagnosed Celiac. We have a 2 year old daughter, who was
born after my wife's diagnosis and subsequent gluten free diet. Our
daughter has been raised gluten free, frankly neither of us wanted to deal
with explosive diarrhea while she was in diapers. The question now is
whether she will ever develop CD, and does she need to remain gluten free.
Since she has never been exposed to gluten she should not have developed and
antibodies. How can we tell? I realize that we could introduce gluten to
her diet and see what happens, but we think it is kind of cruel to cause
pain and diarrhea in a toddler if there is any other way, besides at this
point she doesn't miss gluten containing foods because she has never had
them. It would be cruel to get her used to a food and then have to take it
away. Anybody have any proven ideas?
